Frederick Coker Email address on file (JUNE 05)

Manchester, England

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and work abroad since graduating fro Lehigh University in 1972. I worked as a carpenter building timber-framed houses in the New York and Boston areas until 1974, when I moved to London to study filmmaking.

During my two years at London International Film School , I became a founder member of WFA Media and Cultural Centre, a workers cooperative involved in the production , distribution and exhibition of film and video around social and educational issues. http://www.wfamedia.co.uk/ .

I really enjoyed working as a documentary cameraman, but sought a new challenge, in 1990, when I re-trained to become a primary (elementary) school teacher here in Manchester in the northwest of England . At school I set a computer-based communication project – The Children of the Three Towns – Les Enfants des Trois Villes, where pupils from schools in cities in Ireland, France and Manchester began, in 1996, to use the Internet in its ‘early days’ to communicate, share ideas, and projects.

Since January 1999, I worked as an IT / ICT Consultant for Tameside Local Authority, advising schools on the effective use of IT to support students access to and progress through the curriculum. For the past 6 years I’ve now specialized further, working in the field of Special Educational Needs, acting as the Inclusion & ICT Coordinator for the 100 schools across Tameside. A major aspect of my work has been to design and deliver the Inclusion Support & Development Network programme of training and resource provision for teachers and students across all our schools. This has been really rewarding.

Achievements:
Through the rock ‘n’ roll of my life’s journey, I feel I’m still wearing a smile on my face, find some time to play the drums, walk along some sandy beaches, and enjoy my kids as they’ve become adults, defining their own lives and directions

I live with my partner, Lucia, the love of my life and who it took me a half century to find. My children Lillian and Frankie from my earlier marriage, and Lucia’s daughter, Lulu, make my private life special.

3 children

Daughters, Lillian (21), Lulu (8) and son, Frankie (18).
